A family love story -The Power Of Cake
A family love story -The Power Of Cake
Cakes are special. Every birthday, every celebration ends with something sweet, a cake, and people remember. It’s all about the memories–Buddy Valastro
There was once a little girl and her cake…
The local school was having an auction, and every student was invited to enter their best work.
She worked with delight on her entry, carefully swirling the frosting. Adding every decorative element a child could imagine. In her eyes, it was beautiful.
That evening, they walked to the school and she held her cake carefully in her arms. As the auction went on, the fanciest cakes went first. Suddenly hers seemed pretty simple in comparison. Boring even.
Her heart tightened in her chest with fear that no one, not one person, would find her cake pretty enough to bid on.
Then an arm was raised. A knight wanted to buy her castle cake.
Her dad, the most heroic man in the room, bid on that cake. He bid on his daughter’s dreams and her hopes. He took home that pan, and the happiest girl in school.
I still get teary when I see the pride in this girl’s eyes.
When I went searching for the picture above, I was surprised to find many old family photos with cake.
Faded and blurry. Out of focus and overexposed.
Perfect.
They are but ingredients in the memories.
This was one of my childhood favorites. I was very blessed, my mom always took extra time to create a cake masterpiece for me.
Always.
Cake is one of my favorite foods. I always thought it was about the flavors, the textures.
But it is about the creation of memories. The joy of family celebration. The delight on her daughter’s face, always.
Cake has the power to nurture, to sustain in ways only told by time.
By blurry old photos. Images on paper, telling the stories of a family. Of a girl who loved cake. And, the people she shared it with.
