The 30 best gifts for writers and bloggers
The 30 best gifts for writers and bloggers
Buying gifts for writers can be a challenge when you don’t know what they even use. No worries, I checked my office and created a list of the things that are practical things I’ve used for decades.
Also, some fun and quirky gifts that a writer would love to get! These gifts are sure to be ones that the writers in your world will use and appreciate all year round.
What is the best gift for a writer?
Something creative!
There are so many variables(writers of fiction/nonfiction etc.) , but this round-up of gifts would be universal for any kind of writer!
- We are notorious for losing track of time once we get in the zone. This can take a toll on our bodies, and my favorite tool to prevent this is a cube timer that is set to go off at practical intervals
- Many writers are near superstitious about their writing utensils (among other things haha) I dream of Blackwing Pencils and with a nice notebook, your gift recipient would appreciate this quality…not to mention heritage of being the only pencil John Steinbeck is purported to use!
- For recipients that imbibe, a fun book is Tequila Mockingbird: Cocktails with a literary twist
- A shirt that features their ENTIRE favorite novel in teensy print, very cool at Litographs
- For lovers of true typewriters? Typewriter: A celebration of the ultimate writing machine, by Paul Robert was a delightful book, and there are coloring books JUST of vintage typewriters for the true enthusiast, The Typewriter Coloring Book
- Lately, I am considering a sound machine. When a writer has limited time to spend, it seems to always be at the same time a neighbor is weedwacking! This is a portable version for travel!
- Send an old typewriter in for a functional service to California Typewriter! Find them here. There is even an interesting documentary Tom Hanks put together about them by the same name
- The Coloring Book for Writers is a fun way to unwind after trying to think of words all day
- Candles always make good gifts, and the literary choice is made in the USA!
- Everyone needs a break, Novel Teas have literary quotes for lit-loving sippers
- Put that tea into a fun mug , make them laugh with Shakespearean insults (there is even a desk calendar with an quip a day)

What does every writer need?
- Books on the writing craft- a few of my all-time favorites are Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon, and Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Golberg
- To help keep their muse alive, this book was SO insightful and has a year’s worth of writing prompts, I loved it! A Writer’s Book of Days
- For moms with limited time to try and build a writing life, Christina Katz has some great books: Writer Mama and The Writer’s Workout: 366 Tips, Tasks, & Techniques From Your Writing Career Coach
“Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” ―Mary Oliver
- A subscription to Writer’s Digest magazine has been helpful for many decades. They just celebrated 100 years of good stuff! If they enjoy poetry, there is Poets & Writers magazine too
- If you have an aspiring writer in your life, the latest Writer’s Market Guide is invaluable to help them know where and what to submit
- Many writers would love to go to a conference but the cost is prohibitive. Look up local or online conferences and send them to a life changing event
Best Gifts for bloggers they will actually use
Bloggers are writers after all, and would enjoy the gifts above! But a few things they need are more specific to their craft…
- Ring Light Kit: 18″/48cm Outer 55W 5500K Dimmable LED Light ring, you can find one here for zoom calls or social media videos
- A good camera is essential for beautiful blog photography. This can be a big purchase, so make sure to scout around and see if they use their phone, a point-and-shoot, or dream of a full-on DLSR. I’ll recommend what I use, but also suggest you check out places like Costco. You will often get a much better set on sale with extra lens etc.
- A small Lavalier microphone for audio
- Blogging planners can be great for getting future content in order. There are some awesome ones out there, but I often use a pretty “general” planner and put planning content into it
- This is a BIG gift, but if you are able? It is worth every cent. I have been writing and blogging since 2008. When I started hearing about the SEO Boot Camp course from Kingdom Bloggers, I wasn’t sure if it was right for me. I am over the moon that I jumped in, because I learned more in 8 weeks than in the 10 years prior in regards to the nuts and bolts behind the scenes of writing material that can encourage and inspire others in a way that they can FIND it. SEO wasn’t a thing back in the day.
I can’t say enough about the information packed into this course and the VALUE of what it held for me, and for many people I know who felt the same renewed confidence after taking it! It would be great for beginners who can do things “right” from the outset. But also, for people like me who are long-term invested and need to update our skillset!
Gifts for people who love writing
The best gifts for writers are ones that help them travel to their creative world, build their craft, and put their art out there.
Hope these help you with your shopping this year. Have a blessed day and thanks for visiting!
