10 comforting Bible verses about strength in hard times
When life feels overwhelming, our first response is often to fall apart! Quickly forgetting the stories of perseverance and courage we have lived out! it is important to come back to God’s word. Here are 10 Bible verses about strength in hard times to comfort you!
Does the following fragment sound familiar?
The dark surrounded me as my fears controlled me. Sleep wouldn’t come, couldn’t come, because desperate thoughts swirled in my head. What would happen to us? Where would we go? How would we make it, or provide for the kids, or keep the electricity on?
Worrying is a life stealer. I know because I used to be that person.
We all fear something. Some of us, fear everything.
I worried constantly. That I wouldn’t measure up, that I would disappoint people, that I could not fix everyone’s problems. I worried that my children would be hurt, stolen or secretly abused.
That my husband would eventually leave me, once he realized what a horrid person I really was. That we would lose our home, my mother would die, or my family members who don’t know Jesus never would…because of me, that somehow “I” had failed, by them choosing not to believe.
All fears, all lies.
What does God say about faith during stressful situations?
The weight of the world doesn’t belong to us, my friends.
I carried the weight of the world on my shoulders internally, while I smiled and laughed and lived well on the outside (mostly).
A few lies had settled into my spirit and presented themselves as truth.
Dictionary.com defines fear this way: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
That isn’t how we are supposed to live, and honestly, that isn’t much of a life. Living in fear is a life stealer.
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT)
Scriptures for strength during difficult times
I encourage you to stop and reflect today. What are you afraid of? Write it all out on a sheet of paper.
Start another column, and challenge yourself to write out truths. The words that take away the power of fear by listing the bottom line.
For me, those truths are based in Scripture.
Genesis 50:20- “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done…” (NIV)
Exodus 14:14– “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” (NLT)
There were real, valid reasons for each and every fear. Today, I am healed of most of these fears. It was a long road, and it wasn’t fun coming to terms with each of those issues.
Don’t give up because the work is hard. This IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR!
Know what the antonym for fear is? Courage.
Trusting God in Difficult Times
“ I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” – Nelson Mandela
Some fears linger on, but with God’s help, they’ll soon be put in their rightful place. Under my feet as I walk on with bold confidence.
It is nothing less than amazing, how each and every conquered struggle is used to produce good, to encourage others today.
Psalm 112:7– “They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them” (NLT)

Bible verses about building courage
Go tackle this life with confidence. And when you don’t feel it?
Fight with everything in you to put fear back in its place.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (NIV)
Zephaniah 3:17 “ The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (NIV)
Isaiah 54:17 “But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you shall succeed, and you will have justice against every courtroom lie. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. This is the blessing I have given you, says the Lord.” (TLB)
Psalm 4:8 “I will lie down in peace and sleep, for though I am alone, O Lord, you will keep me safe.” (TLB)
What is a simple prayer for difficult times?
Lord,
Let me be strong and courageous today. When I am afraid, remind me not to panic about the things that have not…and might never…come to pass.
Teach me to trust, to remember that you God, will personally go ahead of me.
Remind me always that you will not leave me, fail me, or abandon me.
You are not like mankind, but instead? You are my God. My champion.
Amen.
