Favorite Bible verses for home-makers and a simple prayer
Favorite Bible verses for home
When I was a young homemaker I began studying the Bible, and it turned my thought world upside down. It was only by meditating on rich Bible verses for home (at least they felt super applicable about how to live as a wife and mother), that the pressure to be perfect began to subside.
The clothes hamper resembling Mt. Vesuvius seemed more like molehills. The dishes (while still my least favorite chore) ushered in a newfound feeling of gratitude for the food that fed my little girl.
Once I reframed housework into a privilege, one task at a time, a change took place.
Homemaking became work I understood to have an irreplaceable contribution to my little family. Your work means more than you know today, my tired mama friend. You, and only you, were created for THIS moment in time.
“The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely- Louisa May Alcott
It can be hard. It can feel lonely. It can be frightening. It is often tedious and even mundane. Yep. It is okay.
I feel you. I’ve been there too, many times. The hard moments WILL pass. And sometimes? Working to change our perspective brings joy to a formerly frustrating situation.
May you find hope today in the bible verses.
A simple prayer for homemakers
Dear Lord,
Help me see my home through your eyes. Thank you for the gift of these walls and the people to love within them. I am tired and sometimes the days seem monotonous with mountains of laundry, and dishes to wash. Give me a fresh perspective to appreciate the gifts that are easy to overlook. Help me to understand that what I see as mundane, you see as the Holy work of home.
Give me direction on how to spend my time. To prioritize my tasks. To help me put You at the top of my morning, to help guide my days. To remember that ALL times are good times to come before you.
Please bless my home Lord, give us peace and security and a place of refuge from the chaos of the world. Help me set boundaries to protect family time. To make strangers into friends here. To love well and remember to open my door, remind me that people want only to find comfort in community, and my house doesn’t need to look new and the “best”.
Lord, remind me that what is best is a home filled with love.
I am tired as I come before you, sometimes distracted by the next step, and chores that seem never ending. Help me to see the beauty in the ordinary, and sustain me when life feels overwhelming.
Amen

Keeper of the home
It is a gift to be the keeper of the home, and when those gifts feel more like burdens? Grace, my fellow homemaker. Grace.
Feel all the feelings, then redirect.
Perspective is one of the most powerful tools you can ever have.
It allows those messy juice spills to remind you of the gift of motherhood.
It tells us that the dishes we wash are from the gift of food we had to eat, and hopefully, people to share it with.
It makes the piles of laundry a little more of a prayer opportunity when we give thanks for the feet that fill tiny socks, or the loving arms of a husband that wore these shirts. For the luxury of clean sheets when others have no bed (this was/is the one that has for some reason always stuck with me the most!)
It casts new light on the pet hair that rolls like tumbleweeds down the hall, reminding us of the fun our pet brings.
Numbers 6:24-26-The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace (NIV)
Favorite Bible verses for homemakers
Homemakers aren’t just doing all the things. YOU have an incredible sphere of influence, unique to your circumstances. It is true!
Remember, a home maker is anyone who is entrusted to care for and create a place of refuge. For yourself, for a family, for whoever God brings into your dwelling.
The gift you offer is a feeling as much as a physical place. Invite God into your space. His word offers much comfort and encouragement for you. Here are a few verses that I have prayed over my house throughout my “tenure” as keeper of my family home. I hope they bring you a quiet moment of peace…
2 Samuel 7:29
Now, please bless Your servant’s house so that it will continue before You forever. For You, Lord GOD, have spoken, and with Your blessing Your servant’s house will be blessed forever. (HCSB) Deuteronomy 28:6
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out (NIV) Joshua 24:15
But as for me and my house,we will serve the Lord (NIV) Nehemiah 4:14b
Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes! (NLT)
Jeremiah 29:5
Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit (NKJV) (this was especially helpful during a season of moving frequently, and desperately wanting to feel settled) Proverbs 14:1
A wise woman builds her house, while a foolish woman tears hers down by her own efforts (TLB) Isaiah 32:18
My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest (NIV) 1 Thessalonians 4:11
Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands (NLT)
Scripture brings peace to your homeMy husband once traveled halfway across the world, to help in a war-torn country. On this mission trip, he helped widows rebuild parts of their homes to make them habitable. What a humbling and life-changing experience. He brought me a battered teapot from the rubble, and for 20 years this has been a prominent piece in my kitchen. As a homemaker, it reminds me to give thanks for the many gifts I GET to attend to caring for, instead of seeing them as the drudgery they might feel like. That is just honest. Caring for the home isn’t all roses and sunshine and fresh lemon smells. Sometimes it sucks, and that is where our attitude can need a gentle adjustment. Being grateful for this gift of tending. May God bless you in your efforts to create a space of peace and joy…and don’t forget the never-ending supply of grace! Luke 10:5 – But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ (NKJV) P.S. soon I’ll be sharing how vintage homemaking routines and menus can be helpful to a modern woman’s life!
