Get unstuck- taking inventory of our mental clutter
Get unstuck-
As we prepare to wave goodbye to Winter and welcome Spring, it is time to do some cleaning of our homes…our minds.
That is the tricky part, isn’t it?
We tend to store up mental clutter.
Consequently, useless or damaged pieces get packed up with our happy memories.
It is time to take inventory and survey what we want to keep, and what we need to let go of! Perhaps you, like me, have experienced major changes this year.
Unstuck, she gracefully moves from one season to the next —Propel Women
What is the first step to getting unstuck?
My mind is settling down, but due to the changes (and my personality!) I still struggle to focus.
To choose what to do with my altered availability. To adapt to a new routine. To create a new life, here, while letting go of things that have passed…but still cherishing their beauty.
In the past six months, I have let go of some major things! Here are a few that I especially miss:
- Homeschooling (14 years)
- Our children (newly empty nesting)
- Home (we made a cross country move, bought and sold homes)
- Our Midwest friends (that were so precious)
- Time with my husband (he often travels for work)
Those are huge emotional ties and physical efforts to release. It has been hard, naturally, but life in our new world is coming along nicely. There are countless blessings here, particularly, being close to family we’ve missed very much.
The best part of taking a mental inventory is seeing what we have let go of, that won’t be missed. Without a pause to consider the effects of the mental baggage tossed, it is too easy to miss the unencumbered reward of freedom!
How do I get motivated and unstuck?
Hasta La Vista Crapola! As a result, I’m celebrating the process of letting go.
These areas of life definitely are not suited to an Unstuck woman:
- Idealistic dreams (life won’t be like we planned, and it can still be amazing)
- FEAR (of change and letting go. Especially living without my kids near, the hardest part)
- Fibromyalgia (Okay, I am being optimistic here. It isn’t gone, but I am prepping to build up my best health)
Pause think about what you WANT to let go.
What you HAVE let go, that might have been an unexpected loss.

Today is important. It is the gift of choice, to enjoy our everyday life.
Without the messy mental competition.

Thank you so much for this post. I’m trying to let go of the people pleaser trap. Seeking others’ approval is not something I do intentionally but I often see these subtle thoughts sneak in and escape my radar. Trying to take every single thought captive in obedience to Him.
Girl, I hear you! I just read in a devotional today that we try to win the approval of people, essentially crumbling idols, instead of the one solid rock. Thanks for reminding ME to watch out for that as well
Great post! It is so important to let go of things, both some good and bad things. I’m currently working on letting go of my need to have things my way all the time. So far this a has had such a positive affect on my marriage and my walk with Christ.
Thanks for reading Ayanna~ isn’t that a big surprise in marriage especially? It took me DECADES to learn what you are practicing. You are undoubtedly inspiring others with your choices to let things go, blessings to you
I’ve been giving away some things these past couple of months that I’ve accumulated for a long time. We’ve lived in this house now for the longest of anywhere we’ve lived. One great thing about moving is that it lets me see how much I’ve been blessed by how long it takes to pack! I’m hoping to keep only things I’ll actually use and enjoy. This is going to be a long process!
I’ve also been working on saying things that are helpful and getting rid of harmful things by listening to videos, reading books, and studying the Bible on that subject. It’s going to be a long process, too. Any time I work in an area, it brings to mind how much more I need to grow in it.
I love the song you posted. I’ve not heard it before. It’s a great reminder for the ups and downs of life.
Needed to add, we don’t have plans to move which the note above may seem to indicate.
You are sharing a fantastic attitude about our “stuff”! So wise about the “brings to mind how much more I need to grow”… sister, I feel what you are saying. Thanks for the sweet sharing and encouragement today

Great post and great resources! Embrace that empty nest, girl. God’s got big plans to use you in this new season!
Thanks girl! I appreciate the encouragement and sweet words!
