A Happy Home is built on love
A Happy Home is built on love
You all know, I am a total nester.
Recently, I watched a documentary series called At Home With The Georgians , a total random library pick, and was delighted to find such a devoted study to the power of Home.
My mom always teased me, that after moving I had to be the fastest unpacker around. My home was nested and functioning ASAP.
I have always loved home.
Attaching feelings of security and sanctuary to whichever structure I happened to be living in.
” We are fixated on buying them, renovating them, making them beautiful and defining ourselves by the way they look”. — Professor Amanda Vickery
The walls that surrounded my family?
It was, is, important to me to create a place where we felt at peace coming in from the world around us.
Making a happy home in hard circumstances
This wasn’t always easy, but was always worth it.
The storm could rage on the outside, but to the best of my ability, the inner quarters would reflect the comfort I hoped to offer the family.
An extension of my love. Sometimes, that was all I had to offer.
This was our actual front yard once… no joke~
How to make a happy home as a wife and mom
We moved, I set up. We moved again, I set up, again. To tell the truth, it was exhausting. But this act of setting up house, always provided a sense of stability.
Perhaps that is why home matters so much to me. It is a refuge from the storm. A delight for my senses. A root system for my spirit.
I can still see the home of my childhood.
Dad built me a treehouse, incredibly close to the sky. If I close my eyes, it is easy to imagine the leaves of the carob tree protecting my shelter. My place, my sanctuary.
When I was younger still, on the side of the shed, Dad built me a mansion. Complete with a plywood couch and a wooden table, made from a wooden cable reel.
Home isn’t about the grandness of our surroundings. It is about the life we make within its walls.
Shoot, my homes were humble and comfortable.
The walls were strengthened by the determined hands of my husband, his arms around me each night. Our children tucked into bed safely. What more could I ask for?
Perfect.
The secret of a happy home
“Home remains the happy ending.”- Professor Amanda Vickery”
The best part of building a happy life for your family?
Home really has very little to do with what houses it. We all desire basic creature comforts and safety.
But I think love is what makes a home. Imagination, and desire to create sanctuary.
My parents sold their home several years ago, but I went and snapped a few pictures first. That mansion? That treehouse near the clouds?
Very ordinary.
So what made them so magical? A sense of belonging, the delight of a place of my own.
Whatever your circumstances are?
Make them as lovely as you can. Settle in until the Lord moves you. For today, make your home the most beautiful place, to you. A personal sanctuary.
Your turn. What is your favorite thing that provides a sense of peace in your home? Leave a comment, I love to read them!

Not having a perfectly clean home.
I grew up where things I liked got thrown away because they were deemed too messy such as papers I had put in my closet (where no one but me could see them) from school.
I’m also a fast unpacker. I never thought about the nesting aspect of it. That is very interesting. Until my last move which I had lived in the previous place for 10 years, I had pictures on the wall and everything out of the boxes within 24 hours.
I like the way you decorate. It is very homey and comfortable looking.
