no such thing as an ordinary day
no such thing as an ordinary day
How are you doing today? we ask each other. Oh, same stuff different day.
I challenge that cliche response and perspective. Sometimes the monotony of life makes it feel that way, I get it.
Motherhood gets rough, homeschooling loses the thrill of the new year, marriage feels stale, work stinks.
But friends, here is some good news for you. We have the power to choose, right now, what kind of day we end up with.
There is no such thing as an ordinary day.
No matter how crappy the day might feel, how it ends is up for grabs.
Here are some ideas for turning things around:
- When the pity party hits, don’t stay too long. Feel the feelings, then release them. This takes practice, but I promise it’ll become much easier in time
- Go for a walk and determine to find something to celebrate in the things you see every day, but seldom notice
- Create something. Did you know art therapy is a thing? There is power in releasing that mental energy
- Start a list of things to be grateful for. Ann Voskamp made a HUGE impact with her book One Thousand Gifts. Countless people started itemizing things that were good. They can be little things, the tiniest things
Rose -colored glasses? Heck yes!
Being grateful for the small things is a brilliant way to live!
Gratitude builds upon itself. It’s the foundation that keeps us strong on the stormiest days.
Sheesh, I’ve been accused of looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. Well, if that is true, hooray! I’ll take that as a compliment because it was an investment in learning how to live well.
Doing it wrong along the way.

Why wouldn’t we want to see things as a gift?
I know what it is to have a really piss-poor attitude as well. We all know how those kinds of days end. How we feel crawling into bed at night, feeling beat up and low on hope.
Did this day start great for you? End it even better.
Was it a day where you felt like you couldn’t go on? Then please, it is vital for a shift in perspective. For your mental and physical well-being.
Sometimes, like me, you might just find that the ordinary days are the best ones of all.
Truly.
