Surviving emotional drought
Know any Dendrochronologists? These people study the rings in the trees for past climate conditions and historical dating methods.
I simply listen to my Dad.
In the mountains near my childhood home, trees thrust into the skyline.
While Palm trees dot the valley and coastal areas, the pine trees in the mountains captivate me and whisper a story.
The rings of a tree give clues into how old they are, Dad explains. The width between rings indicates seasons of nourishment and seasons of drought.
How similar our own stories run with these massive trees!
We burst upwards, our lives marked by time.  Blue skies where peace nourishes our souls. Torrential storms that shake us, yet provide the water necessary to growth.
The dry winds of waterless years parch our skin, deprivation rules us and growth is harder to see. Yet our roots keep seeking the necessary sustenance…
And time marches on and the weather shifts. We sway in the breeze, roots planted firmly in the soil.
Our arms stretch out to the sky and we are nourished.
