Why living in the present is important

Why living in the present is important

Last week I had my daughter clean my glasses for me.

The world seemed blurry, no matter how much I wiped them down and angled them on my nose.

She declared the glasses were fine; my eyes were the problem.

Living in the meantime

It isn’t just regular optical sight we struggle with. We try hard to focus on what is out there in front of us.

Tending to overlook the near, in favor of what lies just out of clear view.

“Today is mine. Tomorrow is none of my business. If I peer anxiously into the fog of the future, I will strain my spiritual eyes so that I will not see clearly what is required of me now.”~ Elisabeth Elliot

Living in the present is about mindfulness

We strain our eyes attempting to see what is far ahead.

That will never be clear, because there are too many variables around each bend.

Potholes and picnic areas.

Living in the meantime

We risk missing the here and now, the current moments we have to work with. The stories of the day escape us.

New and fresh ideas that would fulfill our days and our work, are ready to be considered.

We must see where we are.

Thoughtfully reflecting on where we’ve been, who we’ve been, makes for an interesting study.

Looking at what has already happened offers clarity for today.

Joy in remembrance. An opportunity to give thanks and glean from experience.

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.” — Mother Teresa

Living in the present has its own benefits

Living in the meantime, the present,  doesn’t have to be about settling.

It can become a wonderful practice of presence.

We don’t have to keep wiping off our glasses and rubbing our temples, straining.

Living in the meantime means becoming a practicing artist of a life well-lived. A wise woman who embraces her imperfect life.

“What day is it?” “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet. “My favourite Day,” said Pooh – Piglet & Winnie the Pooh

Savor today, don’t relish tomorrow.
