Here is what you need to know about these pictures I share with you all. There are some, um, surprises that come with the territory.
So this pelican…
I walked away from this shoot and wiped my hand on my shirt. It came away wet and filthy. Looking down, a good size section of the front was smeared.
Leaning over the rail of the pier, I had unknowingly connected with a fresh bird turd.
As we walked to the car, it quickly became apparent that not only was I dirty, my shirt now smelled.
It was strong. Pelicans might just rule the turd game.
I did a quick change in the parking lot, balling up the dirtied item and putting it in the back of the car.
It wasn’t enough, we had to drive with the windows down most of the way because my co-occupants were paying the price with me. I’d guess for approximately 40 miles.
Not every picture comes without cost.
But for me? The price must still be worth it because the thrill of capturing something special with my lens?
It brings the details of the world into stunning focus.
My imagination celebrates the grand big picture, the puzzle.
The photos remind me of the details that would have been invisible to the eye of my memory.
That is worth a few unexpected surprises.
So, about this pelican…
